The end of the computer industry, under a new Sun? Laughing

"Sun also announced that Mark Tolliver, 52, chief marketing and strategy officer, and Neil Knox, 51, executive vice president, volume systems products, have decided to leave the company to pursue other interests. The company named Anil Gadre, 47, interim chief marketing officer, and Brian Sutphin, 49, vice president, corporate development. Both will report to Schwartz."

Hopefully not, but it really stinks like the end of commercial Unix systems would.

HI, I am an Indian living in India, and I dont do a job stolen from the US or anywhere else, FYI.

I am quite saddended that people back there who went to college and prepared themselves for a particular job graduated to find that the job moved elsewhere, coz its cheaper there.

My heart goes out to you guys.

And then, when coke came back to India, a lot of good quality indian drinks got killed instantly, simply because they didnt have the marketing budget that coke had. Thousands of people employed in the indian soft derink industry lost their jobs, and this in a country where social security is unheard of.

I am not saying that globalisation is good or bad. I am saying that yes, it took away someone's job and future, but a touring lecturng americal economist visited my college and told us that this was good for the economy as a whole. So we said all right and we adapted.

Now, it is not like the american citizen on the streets who has lost his job today is directly responsible for what indians suffered when some other americans came selling globalization to us. Of course he is not. But he has to realize that he didn't protest the system then, probably because it was someone else's problem. Now the monster's come home.

Fight it, and see to it that your interests are protected. We couldn't fight whe america invaded us with their goods, partly because some of us really beleived in a free market economy, and mostly because we didnt have the muscle to ask the bullying US markets to push off.

Fight it even if means Indians and others 'll lose their new found "american" jobs.

In case any of you wonder as to what'll happen to the indians who've now been employed by your companies, just know they've seen this and worse, at the hands of western "civilizations", as well as corrupt home grown ones. They'll survive anyway.

Learn to protect your interests, or Adapt.

Sure. Doesn't "smell" like Indian English in the first place.

BTW, what's the news about forking an open source version of Solaris? Now that I'm no more paid for browsing through their Smashingly Designed Web Site... Smile

Sunmanagers...

I am interested in a discussion, and opinions/reactions to Sun's new policy
regarding Solaris re-licensing on used/refurbished equipment not bought from
Sun direct. As I believe this topic may be outside the scope of this forum
I would ask that folks share opinions direct to my email. I feel this is
on-topic as many Sunmanagers are directly affected by this policy shift, as
are independent re-sellers. Looking forward to hearing from any and all
regarding this issue.

Huh?

Do they want to be paid for each system each time it changes its owner? Bummer... Shock
