Who started this bullshit that every novice repeats about "Even Harmonic Content" has no idea about Fourier transforms. ANY non-linear device that distorts produces even order harmonics, ANY!!!

Only when distortions are symmetric, some even order harmonics get decreased in level. It has nothing to do with vacuum tubes, solid state devices, or even transformers. It is about symmetric distortions! How to get them? The simplest way, symmetric push-pull amps! And it does not matter, does it contain tubes, or transistors. It must distort symmetrically to cancel to certain degree even order harmonics.

Another bullshit that people repeat, is about "Desirable Even Order Harmonics". This bullshit was invented back in 1960'Th to explain why despite of claimed low THD of transistor amps people still preferred tube amps. They did not admit the truth that low THD is not the whole picture of distortions, and that it was low on certain power in stationary measurement conditions only. It was a marketing invention, to show, "See, if you don't like our best in the world SS amps, that means something is wrong with you, and you prefer distortions". Well, instead of admitting that "Something is wrong with me", it was preferable to admit that "Certain distortions sound nice". In order to prove, people listened to musical sounds with added 2'nd order harmonics to notes. But the truth is, that if you add second order harmonic to sound of some instrument, it sounds nice. Actually, all instruments except flute and clarinet contain them. But if you add second order harmonics to the mixed sound, you get GARBAGE!!! You won't listen to an orchestra adding such a level of 2'nd order harmonic like in a grand piano sound! It would be an awful porridge of sounds, due to intermodulations between multiple notes that result in many odd sounds with frequencies equal to sums and differences in all sounds of the orchestra!

Did you think why say Diana Krall is so polular among some audiophiles? Because they use better, "high end" recording equipment? Not at all! Because in almost all her recordings either her, or upright bass, or some other instruments, are SOLOING on background of SOFT accompaniment. Boutique amps with awfully high distortions would not harm such recordings too much, because there is almost a single voice: nothing to inter-modulate.
