Going to embark on a major project now. GM70 SE amplifier. Starting to collect my parts for it.

Any suggestions for a driver stage? Thinking along the lines of either choke loaded driver or DRD with IT....

Also noticed your post regarding the IDHT that is 4P1L equivalent. Could this be used as a driver tube too?? PM me if you do not want to release the name of the tube yet...

Can't find any datasheets on this tube...

Can it be used as a driver for GM70?

I think I will stick with 6P15P because even if 12P17L has similar to 4P1L electrodes it has larger cathode area so on higher end of negative voltage on the control grid it looses linearity, if to compare to 4P1L.

So I guess you will not be recommending 12P17L to be used....

Will 4P1L be able to generate enough swing to drive the GM70 if it is transformer coupled to the GM70? Most likely will be using a DRD design driver stage...

About 12P17L, it is a very good tube. But 4P1L tube is exceptional
Look how much 45 and 2A3 tubes cost, and how much do you think 4P1L should cost to match the price/quality criterion?

I don't know, is 1W enough to drive GM70 in the regime you want to use it? I would start from defining requirements. What do you want from it. Then how to drive it in order to get what do you want from it.
