By the way, was listening to your performances recordings, what was the AMP used? the Pyramids? Tower? or the others Barracuda, Alligator etc? The sound seems so powerful and dynamic yet maintain the sweetness of tubes... very impressive.

Thank you!
During all performances I used prototypes of Pyramid amps. And my condenser microphones I made using Chinese copies of Neumann capsules.

By the way, how is your project going?

It is about 60% done up. I have modified the circuit a little to simplify it, will let you know how it sounds.

Can you post schematic, pics?

How did you make the chassis?

It is based on your Gubernator V 4.0 ( download.php?id=487&f=7 ) but is simplified as follows. Smile

Basically reduced the front-end to a single 12AT7 with a 6N6P cathode follower as driver stage for both channels. Currently using resistive plate load for 12AT7 instead of gyrator due to time constraints (will do it once have some time available). Coupling caps are FT3 Teflons. Resistors are standard 5% carbon film. No exotic parts apart from the FT3.

Power supply is solid state diode bridge with CLC filtering for B+.
-75V bias is with a non-regulated SS bridge CRC filtered supply.

Chassis is not much to look at, just a re-purposed drawer for now. Will take a pic once the thing is completed. Will try to source a better chassis once resources permit. Smile

The cathode follower is configured as shown on your schematic above. However I find the 6N6P tube is redplating as I adjust the bias to achieve an idle current of even only 40ma through gu50. I am wondering if the cAthode resistor of 1.5kohm should be increased. I have removed the feedback resistor.

Yes, you should increase the resistor's value, if everything else is correctly soldered!

Current through 6N6P multiplied by voltage between it's anode and cathode should be no more than max anode power dissipation. What voltage does 6N6P have between anode and cathode? You may measure separately: voltage on anode in respect to ground, and voltage on cathode in respect to ground.

I would be glad to drive to you to help, but unfortunately my Nissan Armada can not fly! Pray

Plate-cathode voltage is 280v

A bit too much for 6N6P!

Try 6.8K-8.2K instead of 1.5K

You are a genius. No more red plating after increasing resistor to 7.8k (2.2+5.6). Amplifier works great. Very powerful and good sound. Thank you so much. Will slowly make the gyrator and put into the circuit when I have a bit more time.

Congratulations! Wink

Consider it as a prototype... Wink

Yes. Version 2 will be in the making soon. Probably pentode drive gu50 in pentode.

by the way, how is the 6C19P amp coming along? worthwhile tube to try?

I postponed that project. I had some urgent work to do in order to pay bills...

Still have some now...
